Mark Woz & the Water One, Direct Transport, Color by Woz, Camaro Top Alcohol Funny Car
team had a great weekend at the year end Automobile Club of Southern California NHRA Finals.

It was a battle to qualify in the fastest Field ever for Alcohol Funny Car where Mark ended up
in the 13th position with a 5.639 run @ 253.85 mph. We also ran 258.02 mph on another
qualifying pass which is our fastest run ever.

In the first round Mark beat Doug Gordon with a bit of luck when Mark had tire shake forcing
him to peddle the car to get past Doug when his car broke on the run.

In the 2nd round Mark ran a ran a 5.654 @ 250.18 mph to take the win light over Keeter Ray
who had problems and crossed the centerline.

In the semi-finals Mark had lane choice over Steve Gasparrelli. Steve was first off the line
when Mark had problems staging the car, but fortunately Steve had tire shake and Mark was
able to drive around him with a 5.692 @ 255.10 mph to take the win.

In the finals Mark had to race the #2 car in the country Mickey Ferro in the Ryco Hydraulics
Monte Carlo. They left almost together with Mark’s .072 light to Mickey’s .064 when just past
the 330” cone Mark banged the blower & slowed to a 6.05 @ only 171mph. Back at the pits
we discovered the drive shaft coupler bolt had broke off and hit Mark in the leg causing him
to shift early which caused a sequence of events that lead to the blower explosion. We would
have been hard pressed to beat Mickey anyway when he ran a 5.522, but we would have liked
to have given him a better race.

We have had a good year with 1 win and 2 runner ups in only 7 races. We finished number 5
in Division 7 and number 25 in national points.  For next year we will have a new Victory Race
Car, which should make us a little faster and more consistent.

Gordon is 2 - 0 against Woznichak in prior events.
Gordon was away first and Woznichak's car was very loose, falling way behind, but something happened
to Gordon's car on the top end and he slowed abruptly, the chutes out early, allowing Woznichak to go
by for the win. Mark Woznichak's incremental margins (negative if behind): 60ft(-0.063), 330 ft
(-0.133), 660ft(-0.183), 1,000ft(-0.145). MOV: 0.1871 seconds (approximately 37 feet).

(L) Keeter Ray (Keeter Ray Racing Mustang)      0.105     DQ-Centerline
This is the first time Woznichak and Ray have faced each other at a national event.
Ray's car was all over his lane and much of Woznichak's, taking out the 330 and 660-foot timing
reflectors. We'll be down for a bit while the sweepers clean up the "orange confetti." Fortunately,
Woznichak was on a strong run and was clear of the scene before Ray crossed the centerline.

green despite his tardy launch, but his car slowed before half track and Woznichak roared by for the
win.
